2 years ago, this book completely changed my life. This is a lengthy review because that's how much of an impact this book has made for me.First off, let me start by telling you about me. I'm in my 20s, educated, and have a great career. I always had confidence but I never knew how to bring it out and when I did, I was scared of coming off "too strong," or hurt someone's feeling. This book shifted my mindset completey. It was 2015 and I had felt like I met the love of my life. He was charming, tall, sunkissed complexion, well established, funny, and not to be served for America - how much more can I get? I pinched myself constantly. As the weeks went by, the curiosity of me finding someone "so perfect" that was single started to dawn on me. I just couldn't believe how so unexpected, I had met "the love of my life."To ease my curiosity, I repeatedly asked if was seeing someone, whom, after many repeated questions he finally say "Yes. But I met her 2 weeks before you and I just don't know what to do." I felt like my whole world crash down within 2 minutes. I asked him "What is it about her you like?" He mentioned things about her that this book had mentioned, "She has a life of her own, she doesn't need me but wants me and she's just a BITCH. But in a good way - I can't explain it!" At the time I didn't realize why he was drawn to her. I questioned, "A bitch? Who wants to date a bitch? Who wants to date something that doesn't invest time in you?" But when we finally met.. I realized why.Long story short, I ran out his house crying so hard I lost my balance and hit the floor, on my hands and knees. I looked back to see he wasn't chasing me, but instead shaking his head in disappointment. I went to my car, shut the door, and sat there crying on my steering wheel in broad daylight. After my tears sobered up, I felt angry because I knew this wasn't who I was (to cry over a guy) and how stupid I looked.I decided to go to a bookstore to read on "self help" books, I was that serious on NEVER EVER crying over a guy. He was my first and my last. I came across this book and what caught my attention was "BITCH". The words of him describing the other girl played in my head over and over - I HAD to read this book.Within 2 days I finished the book and my life did a complete 180. I must admit today it's still a power struggle but I am no longer that "weak" girl who's "scared" of being confident because it's going to "offend" someone. I am utterly myself with no regrets. This book isn't about how to get a man (which is honestly why I read it based on the title) but a book of self-empowerment and how to drive that energy into full gear. It was the push I needed to drive my little ego up the wall. It helps mold you into whom you want to be without telling you who you HAVE to be. Don't be that girl that cares about what he thinks, says or do. Don't be that girl that waits 3 hours on a date to find out he stood you up. DON'T BE "THAT" GIRL.After reading this book I realized the whole time I was "THAT" girl, and the other girl was the BITCH.I highly recommend this book so much. It's not boring and it's so insightful. It's not the "cliche" advice you hear. It helps you handle difficult situations from relationships to sex to even why he does things.Remember, men wear the pants, but woman control the zipper :)

I have a love/hate relationship with this book...(maybe like 20% Love and 80% HATE). Fundamentally, this book would be for someone new to the dating world. I can understand and appreciate the advice of not giving away too much too soon, and to make sure he is interested just as much as you are and want the same things so you don't waste your time. Value yourself and don't settle for someone who doesn't appreciate you. That being said, the advice for people in long term relationship is garbage. I have been in a relationship for almost 2 years and reading this book almost RUINED EVERYTHING. If you are in a long tern relationship and you are told by a book to 'pull away' emotionally and physically until he sees what he is missing...then you are not in a relationship with a man, you are in a relationship with a BOY. This book should be titled "Why BOYS loves bitches". That would make more sense. If you continually want to play this cat and mouse game with your boyfriend then go for it. But it will leave you exhausted and unfulfilled.I tried following the 'advice' given in this book and we suffered because 'pulling away' and waiting for him to figure out what's wrong is absolute BS. I felt misunderstood, confused and angry that he couldn't read my mind. Then I realized "I'm an ADULT. This MAN that I am dating is an ADULT. We should be ADULTS and not play juvenile games."Both men and women deal with conflict differently. To think that ALL men respond to their woman pulling away or disappearing for the weekend is completely unfair. Maybe some BOYS respond to that. Not all men are the same. Not all women are the same.If I could suggest anything to women in relationships, it would be to read books that place a value on understanding your partner and their communication skills vs a book like this where you punish your partner for them not behaving the way you want them to.Books like "The 5 Love Languages" and "Insecure in Love" are PHENOMENAL and I can honestly say my relationship is better and stronger after reading them. I now come from a place of respect and we communicate better and really understand where the other is coming from.If you choose to read this book, fair enough, but this is NOT the Bible on how relationships should work.

Where do I begin? Its been 3 years since I started dating again...I am now 56, divorced after 10 years. I bought this book 2 years ago and boy am I glad I did! Perhaps they need to change the title as it may make some people think the absolute worse in womanhood. Nothing could be further from the truth. This book showed me everything I had been doing wrong in my relationships with men. I'm a career RN, very successful. I'm smart and savvy with my money(credit score 800) and already paid off my mortgage(in 20 years, all by myself). With all that going for me, I would allow myself to be a DOORMAT. Not good ladies! Wake up and buy this book!!! Ever since I read it, my relationships are no longer one-sided with me doing all the chasing. I had my pick of successful men my age. I finally met my fiancee last year in November and he proposed this past June! This will be the 4th book I buy as I feel COMPELLED to give it out to the women in my life so they too can find happiness!

Review

“The Little Book of Talent should be given to every graduate at commencement, every new parent in a delivery room, every executive on the first day of work. It is a guidebook—beautiful in its simplicity and backed by hard science—for nurturing excellence.”—Charles Duhigg, bestselling author of The Power of Habit   “It’s so juvenile to throw around hyperbolic terms such as ‘life-changing,’ but there’s no other way to describe The Little Book of Talent. I was avidly trying new things within the first half hour of reading it and haven’t stopped since. Brilliant. And yes: life-changing.”—Tom Peters, co-author of In Search of Excellence

Both books say basically the same thing. But The Talent Code is more focused on telling stories and analysing research; The Little Book, with its extremely practical approach, could easily have been an appendix to The Talent Code. So, if you want guidelines for developing a talent, buy this one. If you want a good, informative read, but which will not be so actionable, buy The Talent Code.,

I read this book after reading "The Talent Code" by the same author, Daniel Coyle. "The Talent Code" gave a terrific overview of how complex skills can be acquired over time and ways to accelerate the process. This book is much more granular with 50+ specific, practical tips.I highly recommend reading "The Talent Code" first since it will provide a higher level of enthusiasm (the "ignition") to read this book and try the suggested tips.

It will help the potential buyer or reader to understand how a self-help book of this type comes about. The author is a known professional, which means he will give you your money's worth whatever he writes about. You may also bet he will pick a topic in his 'little book' that offers solutions to a concern of millions. Having the talent and goal, he then finds a path to action. Finally, he packages the answers into a tidy 'little book' to make it universally palatable. His next stop will be speaking tours, but that doesn't concern us here. This is what has happened to 'The Little Book of Talent'. On that basis, I recommend any self-striving reader to inhale it. In one evening you may change the rest of your life. There is nothing in it that someone who grew up on the farm and school of hard knocks doesn't know, but not everyone was so lucky to get these lessons for ten bucks.

Without reading The Talent Code this is a okay book. In conjunction with The Talent Code you will be very pleased because of the deeper understanding of the concepts. The books both are academic in nature but written in a understandable fashion. This will help you see how the process you use can be improved in almost any area of life.

This tiny book is loaded with great, easy to implement ideas that really did completely change the way I practice and drill for dancing. I have definitely noticed an improvement following such basic but brilliant ideas such as repeat a move/routine/combination you are trying to learn three times, do something else for 10 minutes, then do the drill another three times. I find I learn the moves much faster that way then repeating on end. I wish I had this book at the start of my dance career. I'm recommending this to all my fellow dancers, and any musicians/athletes I know.

I've been reading several different books that grew out of Anders Ericsson's research on skill development and expertise. I have to say this is my favorite. The 52 quick tips deliver an amazing amount of wisdom and actionable advice without the stultifying fluff that most authors pack in between their central points in order to make the book seem more thorough. This guide book of 52 actionable tips distills the essence of what Daniel Coyle learned through his years of researching and visiting world hot spots of talent and professional excellence. Do yourself a favor. Get a copy and throw it in your golf bag, musical instrument case or whatever you carry with you when you are practicing and perfecting your craft of choice. You'll almost always find some little piece of advice that increases your ability to excel.

I'll keep this short (much like the book).Read this if you're a teacher, coach, or mentor. Read this if you're an athlete, student, or hobbyist. Read this even if you don't enjoy reading! I guarantee you there's information in here that you've never considered. And what's great, it's all been distilled from the best academies and coaches in the world. For example - "The key to effective engraving is to create an intense connection: to watch and listen so closely that you can imagine the feeling of performing the skill." What this does is create a 'mental blueprint' to be used in combination with actual, physical practice. And there are 52 tips of similarly valuable (or less valuable) information at the ready!Get it already!

Very concise, to the point, without the long psychology explanations. My son plays soccer, started like many kids, because all his friends were playing and he enjoyed doing that with his friends. He had not played at all when he decided to join the others at age 9 in the same club the others play. My only condition was "you have to stick to it" and he did. Began with zero condition, zero skills, nothing. After two years it has been very gratifying to see him change, improve, become "talented"... This books describes that process. We now translates his skills (grit, persistence, hard work) to other areas of his life (school, music).

It took me a while to get into this book but in the end I really enjoyed it. There were many new facets to the story and outright differences from the Disney movie (all of the books in the Twisted Tales series are retellings of the Disney movies) as well as filling in obvious gaps/plot holes. I really enjoyed the subtle nods to the movie as well as the empowering of Belle. She was a strong character in the movie but in this book she has even more agency and thereby is even more awesome. This story gets really dark and upsetting at the end. It's not quite Stephen King but you may want to be mindful. I suppose it's not much of a spoiler to say that the asylum only hinted at in the movie is more prominent and it is exactly what real asylums were like in the past. If descriptions of what was done to patients would disturb you or your child, then you may want to skip parts at the end.Speaking of the ending, it was lovely. A different sort of happily ever after but one I wholeheartedly support. I kind of wish this was the story for the new live action remake.

What a disappointment this book was. I'm the biggest fan of the original Disney film, and although this book did have its upsides, it still sucked big time, right up to the incomplete, unsatisfying (non-) ending. The premise of the book was very interesting, but it was so badly handled that it made me regret the time I wasted reading it.My favorite part of "Beauty and the Beast" was, of course, the relationship between Belle and the Beast. Here, their relationship is downplayed in favor of the social/moral issues related to the persecution of "Les Charmantes" and a whole long backstory about Maurice and Belle's mother that I frankly didn't care that much about. If I wanted to read about the evils of discrimination and persecution of innocents, I would read a historical or contemporary novel, not a book based on a Disney fairy tale. Some parts of the story didn’t even make sense. For example, the magical rose turned into dust when Belle touched it, messing up with the curse. Why??? There was nothing in the spell the enchantress put on the prince (in either this book or the original movie) that said that the magic rose couldn't be touched by anybody, much less that it would turn to dust or complete the curse. The only statement was that the spell had to be broken before the last petal fell, which a completely different thing. In fact, the rose was from the enchantress’ own garden, so chances are Belle had touched it before, same as the rest of the flowers in her house.Another issue I had was Belle finding out about the Beast’s curse from the beginning, completely changing the moral of the original story, which was that she could love him without knowing he actually was a prince in disguise.I also found a little strange that the villain of the story didn’t even think of using the “les charmantes” magic for himself, which seems out of character for somebody as evil as him. It would have given the villian an even stronger motivation for his "experiments". Speaking of the villain, I easily found out who he was almost from the beginning of the story, so the "great revelation" of his real identity fell completely flat.2 good things about this book: It was only 99 cents, and it made me want to re-watch the original Beauty and the Beast a dozen times more to forget this version exists.

When reading this particulate take on the 1991 Disney classic, I found it to be a quite enjoyable read. I love how we get to see who belle's mother is; both as the enchantress that cursed the beast and who she was when Maurice first met her. What was going on with the beast really set that he has a heart and it really made in more sympathetic as the story when on. Belle was level headed and proactive as she should be. Even thought they don't get much time devoted to them, I still like the enchanted objects but really wish they had more of a role in this story. Really, I'm just nitpicking. Love the portrayal of Maurice's past and the current change to the status quo. Loved how in character everyone is, especially that one deeper look into a certain character later on. Overall, a pretty good read.

This is honestly one of my favorite retellings of the Beauty and the Beast mythos. It has a wonderfully detailed backstory, character development, and feels natural when it takes its ‘twist’.Beloved characters are seen in new situations to give them more depth. As the plot grows, each page you turn will be exiting and filled with wonderment.Highway recommend this book and this author and her series!

Anyone that loves the original story will still love this book. its exciting, fresh and some parts mix and mash into the story we all know by heart. I now cant imagine Belles mom being anyone else!

It was a fun read and I enjoyed the twist on the fairy tale. The writer also added good depth to the beast and Belle's characters, and raised some of the stakes. Its clear this author spent a lot of time pulling apart the original story, and even more time piecing it back together in a way that is refreshing yet true to the original story. (To be honest, I wish the recent movie had pulled more ideas from here when trying to fill in plot holes and character development. So if the movie left you wanting more, or something different, then this might be a good book for you :)

Great book! It was a little hard for me to start but loved that it followed the Disney version a bit and then it twisted. But I loved the twist it kept my interest and the last few chapters I couldn't put it down. I love the change in fairy tale stories. Don't we all think what if this happened or that?

I collect any and every retelling of Beauty and the Beast that I can get my hands on. This version was beautiful and nostalgic describing detailed scenes straight out of the Disney animated film. And the twist with Belles mother as the enchantress still kept an element of surprise and intrigue. I loved that Belle’s internal diologue referenced the many books she read, and used those to influence her decisions and thought processes. This felt so true to character. I definitely want to read the other books in the twisted tale collection
