I couldn’t not love this Rogue River series. Well, officially, this is a Rogue Justice Novella #1. However, this is not really the first book. The real first book is On Her Father’s Grave. But not to worry, the main story was started here. It just that the characters’ background had started from previous books. Quite a lot of references to past stories, and I imagine if I didn’t follow these novellas from the beginning I would be very curious about them.OK, so, onto Twisted Truth. These novellas never stop impressed me with the depth of the story. Yes, it was (they all were) novella, yet the story was so complete. Mystery, check. Suspense, check. Emotional drama, check. Romance, check. Not all authors could manage all factors in a novel, yet she always managed to do it in this Rogue River novellas. This one was no exception. I simply LOVED it!There were homicides in the sleepy town of Solitude, in the middle of a storm, and Seth was called to investigate. Findings on the scene brought his wife, Carly, and the whole Taylor family into trouble. There were unexpected twist and turn, angst and sweet moments. I read it in one sitting (thank God for weekend), and left me satisfied.I would give it 10 stars if I could…I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher through NetGalley, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.

I love these people and their town. A family full of public servants, police officers, from rookies to detectives, a town mayor, a social worker, and the widow of the former Chief of Police, now we include the new town psychiatrist who also has to sub in as a medical doctor because the nearest one is 30-40 miles away. Thank goodness psychiatrists are medical doctors and have to be trained just like any other medical doctor. These people take public service to a whole different level. This story is great even if, because I have to work away from home most of the day, I did not finish reading it until 1:30 this morning - it was that good. I knew, because it was a Novella, that it would be much shorter than a full-length novel. I still wanted it to go on and on.Rogue County is being deluged with rain and almost everything, especially the roads, is underwater. In the midst of their difficulty getting around, Seth Harding, a police detective, part of an overworked police department, is called out to the scene of "shots fired." It is at this scene that Seth and Carly's brother, Bruce Taylor, a rookie cop, find a young boy who is chained to a furnace in the basement of the house where two people were found murdered.Carly Taylor Harding has had much more than a "rough month." It's not bad enough that she has held an abused child that she could not save while he died, now she has to care for one who has been kept chained in a basement longer than anyone cares to imagine. She is so invested in her work as a social worker that she is about to come to the decision that she is at the end of her service.Of course, there are a couple or three happy and/or light moments, Prince Eric is always good for a chuckle, and what is it with Patsy, Carly's mom, wearing makeup to cook breakfast. It wouldn't be a Melinda Leigh story without a little good to offset the bad.

Solitude, a small town in southwestern Oregon. A complex storyline with kidnapping, murder, stolen money, and a strange little goat called Prince Eric. He doesn’t have a big part in the novella, but he is cute! A novella that could be the beginning of a family saga. A family farm with the matriarch, Patsy, daughter Carly, a social worker, and her husband Detective Seth Harding. One of Patsy’s sons, Bruce, is a new rookie in the Sheriff’s Department. Another son and his family live in the same area. Carly and Seth have an 8-year-old daughter, Brianna.Seth and Bruce and Carly become involved in the same case one rainy day, when 2 people are murdered, and a finding in the cellar surprises everyone. The action is continuous and the characterizations are richly done. This is a family one would love to know! The story stands alone well, with a surprise ending! A quick engaging read!

What can I say other than Melinda Leigh does it again!!! I’ve loved this series from the beginning!!! I have grown to love these characters!!! This may be a novella but it is packed with action and suspense!!! I believe it to be the best one of them all!!! I love the plot and of course the characters!!! They are filled with so much passion and have developed from the beginning!!! It’s so nice to see character development in a book/series. I hate when the characters stay the same. I also really like that Melinda incorporated a personal touch to the plot. It wasn’t just all about the main story line. The personal lives of the characters was included but did not take away from the plot. There wasn’t too many side plots which is something I appreciate. I hate that this is the last book by Melinda in this series. I hate that the characters are being put to rest. However there is hope I believe. The ending left things open for the possibility of another book. It doesn’t leave you with any unsolved questions — thank God — but the possibility is there!!! Thank you Melinda for a fabulous series!!! As always you delivered!!!

As always Melinda Leigh delivered one heck of an action packed story. There were moments where I was like, what is she doing!? LolI love Seth and Carly. I think they’re my favorites out of this group. Well, back up, Patsy is my favorite, they’re my favorite couple. When murder and mayhem show up both Seth and Carly are tossed into the middle. Carly’s brother, Bruce, a newly appointed deputy is in the thick of it as well. Two dead bodies, a boy chained up in the basement and a storm make the nights sleepless and a little overwhelming. The hunt is on for the person, or persons responsible for the murders and the boys treatment. When that trouble follows Seth and Carly home, things take a turn for the worse. But somehow, as they always do, they manage to kick butt.... too bad the troubles not over.
